Custom Homes

Single-family homes built to plan and taste.

← Back to What We Build

A custom home is the one project where the client is also going to live in the result, and the details that don't matter on a commercial job, a trim profile, a stone selection, a layout tweak, matter here. We build single-family custom homes to the plan and to the client's taste, not a production builder's standard package.

The types of custom home projects we take on

Ground-up custom homes built from an architect's plan are the most common project, but we also take on major remodels and additions where the scope is closer to a partial ground-up build than a simple renovation. Design coordination with an architect who is already engaged is common; on some projects we coordinate architectural and engineering work directly when a client doesn't already have that relationship in place.

How we build it

Because we self-perform framing, millwork, stone, tile, and finish trades, the same crew that's accountable for the schedule is also accountable for the finish quality the client is going to live with. That means fewer handoffs between subcontractors, and fewer places for a custom detail, a specified trim profile, a particular stone selection, to get lost between the drawing and the finished room. We work from the client's plan and their architect's drawings, keeping the build true to the design through framing, mechanical and electrical rough-in, and every finish trade after.

What drives the cost and the schedule

Finish level is the single biggest factor: custom millwork, natural stone, and specified fixtures cost and schedule differently than a standard finish package, at the same square footage. Site conditions, a sloped lot, difficult access, existing utilities, add real site-work scope before framing even starts. Decision timing matters more on a custom home than on almost any other project type, because so many finish selections are genuinely custom, and a delayed selection on stone, tile, or cabinetry can hold up the trades waiting behind it.

Working with your lot

Whether you already own the lot or are still evaluating one, we can walk the site with you before design is finalized, since grading, drainage, and utility access shape both the design and the budget more than most clients expect going in.

Delivering on schedule

A custom home's schedule depends on decisions being made on time as much as it depends on the trades themselves, and we tell a client specifically what we need from them, and when, so a finish selection running late doesn't become a framing or drywall delay weeks later.

Working with your architect

Most custom home clients already have an architect and a set of plans by the time they come to us, and we treat those drawings as the design of record, coordinating any constructability questions directly with the architect rather than making field changes that drift from what was actually designed.

We are licensed and insured, with over 20 years of combined experience building custom homes, and our own crews carry the finish trades a client is going to live with long after the schedule is finished.

Frequently asked questions

Do you build from an architect's plan or do you also design?
Both. We build from a client's existing plan and architect, and we also coordinate architectural and engineering work if a project needs it.
What finish trades do you self-perform on a custom home?
Our own crews carry framing, millwork, stone, and tile, so the same team responsible for the schedule is also responsible for the finish.
Can you build on my own lot?
Yes. Custom home construction is built to your plan on your site, whether that is an existing lot or one you are developing.
How involved can I be in material and finish selections?
As involved as you want to be. A custom home is built to your taste, and we coordinate selections with you and your architect throughout.
